My new cat, Benny Pancakes

Last Sunday after watching The Golden Compass in the night before with my boyfriend Matt and his son Robbie, I decided to adopt a pet. This decision wasnt made only on the fact that animals were really connected with humans on the movie and that they really interact and their minds floats inside eachother but because I really miss having the company of a real pure living creature that loves me even when I am not that lovely.
So we went to the Loyd Center, a mall a couple blocks from my apartment to see if the pet store there had any kitten. I was sooooo happy, smilling like a kid, crazy to meet my new friend...they didnt had any cat there. Ok...smile mode: off. Matt was confident and we decided to take Robbie to his house and go after the new friend.
After calling the PetSmart and Oregon Humane Society we decided to go see what the OHS had, because when I called the attendant said that they had over 150 cats including kittens. Not that much lady! Next time be more realistic, ok.
We got there and I discoved that they dont have that much animals available and the ones that they have are not that desirable. They are old, not that friendly, this comment is about the pit bulls there and other big dogs that we know that after a certain age cannot be placed in a new home that easier.
The cat sector was cute but mostly with grown up cats, sleeping and not really interested in playing like I had on my mind.
I decided to ask to one of the volunteers where where the kittens and for my surprise they only had 2 there and not that kittens, both over 6 months old. She showed me the website where apparently they really keep it updated with all the available animals, and I was thinking that was impossible to a canil to have only that few animals in such big city as Portland.
So, the youngest one was on hold, yes you can put a cat on hold, but not an apartment...different history for a next post, and there were Benny, an young and shy cat brought to OHS a couple days ago.
We got in one small room where we were placed so Alice, the volunteers told us to wait for her while she was getting Benny to meet us. I found that very cool and organized, you get to have private time with your pet before choosing to take him home.
Benny was looking shy and not that interested in playing or having any kind of contact with us, but he was ok when I got him on my arms and pet him for a while. He is a cute cat.
I decided that Benny was a keeper since he was shy but not aggressive and most important I wasnt showing any alergic signals. We got his papers done and received a pager to wait so they could prepare the paperwork.
As Matt and I both wanted to have a cigarette we decided to wait until they page us outside enjoying a cigarette and some talk. Suddenly I hear a scream and for my surprise was a cat running and trying to scape, Geez!! that cat was determinated to scape from that freaking place...lol...I closed the door behind me and Matt was still inside holding the door while all the volunteers were chasing the cat up and down the hall...lol...that cat was really climbimg the glass doors with sharp nails and a very muscular little body, for a cat of course, that was the most impressive scape tentatives that I have ever watched in this life, and maybe a sign from God trying to alert me about how wild cats are...but I was thinking that all that scene was hilarious and was laughting so much that the signal from God wasnt even noticed.
Paperwork done, Benny in a little box, pet shop on the side, let's buy new things for the new member of the family. Litter, check!, Littler sand, check!, Toys, check! a fancy house so he can climb and scratch, check!, the best food available, check! fancy wet food to spoil him, check! Total money spend on this adventure: $ 270,00!! Including the adoption feed.
Inside the cab and no signal of Benny not liking cars ride, thats good. Poor Matt had to carry all the junk I bought...sorry baby!! I love you and promisse not to get you in this kind of situation anymore. :)
Got in the building, show the cat to the manager...ohhh a kitten!! Yes, isnt he adorable?!?!?! :) Do I have do sign anything today or pay the pet fees? - Yes, I will have all done for you tomorrow said the manager.
Got in the elevator, there is Benny making noises, he apparently doesnt like elevators...whatever, who can blame him.
Got in the apartment, get the littler ready, check!, get a place to put the food and water, check!, get the fancy play house in a nice place, check!, take Benny out of the little box, check! and there he was running and hidding on a corner on the kitchen...oh well, is his first time on the new house, he will get used to it. Some hours after we arrived and he was still on the same corner.
A few hours later I decided to get him and try to pet him...ok, he let me do it but doesnt like to be on my lap...but likes to be on the couch with me...I start to feel hungry and decided to send the diet to the hell and eat the 2 pancakes. By the time that I get in the couch with the pancakes he stands up and show a lot of interest on my food...Matt says that is better to give him a little bite so he wont be hungry and to get his confidence on my also, so I did, and that little creature loves his pancakes...wow.
Time to go to bed and he is all ok on the couch and didnt want to come with me to bed, that's ok I can live with that your little shy cat...love you, see you in the morning!
Next morning I woke up and went to check on Benny, he was hiding on the little corner by the office desk, didnt want to come to talk to me and was looking not that friendly, no problem, take your time, I have to go to work. See you later. I came back from work and Benny was still on the corner, few hours later, still dont want to talk even trying for over an hour playing with the balls and toys close to him, ok, good night, take care. See you tomorrow.
Next morning, still hidding on the corner, but suring the night used the litter, eated, played with the toys and explorer the house. Still dont wat to talk to me even after hours trying to get his attention. Matt couldnt get him too, he even scratched the hell out of Matt when he tried. No problem, I can wait.
Now after a very stressfull day at work getting my backlog close to manageble I decided to create this blog, and after typing the first words Benny decided to take a walk by the house, already eat, used the litter, explorer the house, scrated his nails on the carpet by the front door, but no call for attention or anything like that...but now he is stucked on the top of the dinner table and is all miauuu...ok Benny I will save you...nah...he runs and hide again, he doesnt need to be saved, he doesnt want to be pet, he doesnt like attention...I need a dog!

The idea here

The idea of this blog is for me to expose somethings that I have been learning lately...If I can learn you can learn too blog is to show any kind of new thing from work to dealing with a new cat that is quite wild at home.

If you have something to add in here, feel free, just remember that I can delete your comment if you are not adding anything to my life or if I just dont like your comment, and this will help you to learn what I like or not...just kidding...or no.
